 General Issues

  • Residential Services Association of Wisconsin regular meetings - flyers passed out, Sept. 21st (Appleton) or October 26th (Kenosha)

  • Riding Wave to Long Term Care Reform Conference at the Chula Visit flyer passed out, October 9-11, 2006, http://dhfs.wisonsin.gov/ltc_cop/BLTS_Conference/RidingTheWave.HTM
  • Kindcare trainings - brochure passed out.  Topics include leadership, outcomes, and challenging behaviors.  Call 414-571-5556 x 406, for more info.
  • Kindcare also planning to do future planning trainings for families at the Willow Way Dances
  • Looking for MADDSA/People Can't Wait Liaison to address issues and concerns with looking at long term care reform.  Would like to have PCW and MADDSA join to get needs across to stakeholders.

 

Treasure's Report

  • $1924.79 in account received one more membership. 
  • Verbal request from MCTAB for $200.00 for assistance with the Focus on Future Forum on Oct. 21st.  MCTAB asked submit request in writing. 

 

Milwaukee Training Initiative

  • Will be looking for input for trainings in 2007.  Great feedback was given from the Behavioral Challenges Training.  MTI will probably hold it again due to the high interest. 
  • 11 or 12/06 Epilepsy/First Aid Training
  • Training on Autism and Aspergers Syndrome on Sept. 19th

 

SE WI Training Group

  • 11-16-06 Health Day - Speakers set, however no flyers have been sent out yet.
  • Next week in Racine, Caregivers Resource Fair to connect people in community that are not yet connected.

 

Transition Committee

  • If someone knows of parents of middle and high school aged special needs children that would be interested in serving on committee refer them to Hope Lloyd at UCP, 329-4500.
  • Parent/Student Forum on Oct. 21st at Children's Hospital.  It will be on a Saturday for ½ day.  Please encourage parents and students to come.  They can expect information on Day Programs, Work Programs and SLO programs.  There will also be small Resource Tables available. 
  • MCTAB meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 1pm at UCP.  If interested contact Hope Lloyd at 329-4500.

Health Disparities

  • Maureen Conaty spoke to Behavioral Needs/Health Disparities Group- they discuss problems with St. Michaels closing.  Looking for updated list from ARC.  Also inquiring with EDS for listing of psychiatrists still billing for straight T19. Dr. O'Grady from the medical college is also on committee.  He discussed possibility of recognizing psychiatry offices that have been willing to work with people with T19 and especially for the ones that have done outstanding work.  He feels this may make others more willing to allow T19 billing at their clinics. 

 

Sandra Butts Report

  • If you have CIP clients, you can expect a letter next week from the County administration/QA staff focusing on waiver standards.  They are moving into the phase of monitoring programs now.  It covers mostly residential, work/employment support/day programs and supportive health care. 
  • Expressed appreciation for all the applications fro 2007. 
  • Residential/Corporate guardian/Personal care workers applications due tomorrow.  Medicaid/Personal care worker meeting is being held today at 11:00am on Vliet. 
  • Discussion of Managed Care- Encouragement to work with stakeholders/committees with the development and planning.  Perry Miller will represent MADDSA.  Sandra also encouraged informal stakeholder groups in addition to formal process so that parents and guardians are aware of what's going on. 
  • Maureen Conaty talked about Bell Therapy Crisis Respite Home.  Looking for it to be starting October 1st.  They are working on the finishing touches.  T will serve primarily Milwaukee County People.  If needed, make a referral to Maureen Conaty or Karin Bachmann, they will then do a screening of a client.  If appropriate the person can stay in the home apt o 28 days with a contract.  The contract will be with the current residence stating the person will be able to come back to home after 28 days.  Discharge planning will begin on first day of stay.  It will serve the DD and Physically Disabled population.  More information on the Crisis Respite Home is due out next month. 

 

Family Care Advocacy - Julie Dixon Seidl

  • Spoke on her role with Disability Rights Wisconsin as an advocate for SSI Managed Care External Advocate.  Her phone number is 414-773-4646.
  • She is able to answer questions regarding the Managed Care Program and SSI.  She is a liaison between the community and SSI.  Brochures and handouts were given.
